Kolhapur district is divided into three main regions:
1. The Western Ghats , spreading North-South to the west of the district.
2. A hilly region situated at the heart of the district.
3. A plateau the east of the district.
Kolhapur district is situated to the south-west of Maharashtra State . Longitudinally it is 15.43 degrees to 17.17 degrees North & 73.40 degrees to 74.42 degrees East. The Sahyadri ranges to the west, the Warana river to the north, to the east in part the Krishna River & Belgaum district ( Karnataka State ) to the south have locked Kolhapur 's district boundaries.
The total area of Kolhapur district is 8,047 Sq. Km. The North-South length is approx. 160 Km. and the East-West width is approx. 60 Km. |
